5 on the 5th - January 2011

After all the fun and games of Christmas and New Year, this month's theme for 5 on the 5th is "Fun and Games". My entry features pictures of Carter's Steam Fair in Bristol as it packs up and prepares to take its brand of old-fashioned fun and games elsewhere.

As ever, please browse the other entries and feel free to contribute next month!

Love Bristol! And Stephen is right, sad to see the fun leave... but knowing it will be back is part of the fun too I suppose...

Andrew, anything with color, music, and movement is important for maintaining sanity during winter in Northern climates. I imagine the traveling show provides a nice distraction on cold dark days.

I always think that it's fun to see how fun-fair rides can be seasonally decorated--stick a Santa on the Ferris Wheel and it's a Christmas Ferris Wheel!

Oh... the fun is leaving. Always a sad sight, isn't it? I have always wondered how safe those portable attractions are.

Anyway, well spotted. Thanks for sharing!

Nice catch. This is a part of the carnival that most people don't see.

Thanks for all the comments!

I took the pics on my lunch break, so it was all a bit rushed... It would have been nice if the weather had been a tiny bit more grey - it could have added a sense of poignancy!
