Tuesday Titter 15 - Ve Have Vays Of Making You Laugh...

I was reminded of this week's purveyor of mirth, whom I have previously only heard on the wireless, when I found a flyer advertising an imminent performance in Bristol. Henning Wehn is a German comedian who has cornered the market for German comedians in Britain. Here he is being introduced by Stewart Lee and telling a couple of gags which he proceeds to deconstruct:

Didn't know about this chap, though I ought to have done. (I don't know if it's my equipment but even at max volume I find the words very difficult to hear.) What I could catch seems to be laughed at more out of sympathy than actually being funny - but I think there's a lot of baggage that we Brits unfortunately still carry in attitudes towards Germans and their sense of humour. But that's not this guy's fault. (He's rather cute!) I wish him luck and hope to see him again - with an audience lapping from his hand.

There is a point where the sound does drop out a bit, which is a shame.

The humour is not in the jokes themselves but in the delivery and deconstruction of them but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Well, Andrew, everyone has their own preferences in comedy - and that's from someone who could never see what was so funny about Morecombe & Wise!
But I would genuinely like to see more of this chappie, tending to have a particular soft-spot for non-English comedians and giving them more patience than I would to many a Brit one. Unfair? Perhaps.
