My Reading Update

Since my last post on the subject, I'm afraid to say I'm still not much further forward in getting back up and running with my reading which in turn means a shortage of book reviews. Meanwhile, I've been happy to purchase more books!

I'm still determined to finish The Storm but need to somehow incentivise myself to make reading a regular part of my day again and to get through it. Here's hoping I'll be posting a review of it soon. Any ideas welcome!

Andrew, we might be able to start regularly exchanging views on the subject of reading - I just DEVOUR books, and have done for more than 40 years.
It so happens that the last three books I've read have all been worthwhile, which was a relief as once I start something I've just GOT to finish it, even if it's a dud. So:-
'Rum Punch' ny Elmore Leonard, filmed by Tarantino as 'Jackie Brown'. Good, but didn't knock me over as I'd hoped.
But two much better reads for me were:-
'The Mermaid and the Drunks' by Ben Richards. A sort of political
thriller set in post-Allende Chile.
'Memoirs of a Geisha' by Arthur Golden (also filmed a few years ago) - packed with very interesting information about 1920s-30s Japanese life, especially, of course re geisha training and 'escortng'. A very satisfying read.
Now I'm about to start on Daphne du Maurier's 'The House on the Strand.' She's a writer who hardly ever disappoints me.
Right, those are my recommendations. Looking forward to reading yours - as well as hearing of any books you did NOT enjoy.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Memoirs of a Geisha has been on my list for years! I enjoyed the film, but left with the distinct impression I would get more out of the book and enjoy it more too!
