Everybody's doing a brand new dance now... So sang Little Eva in 1962 when my Mum was a child, and again in '72 when my Mum was planning her wedding.
To people of my generation, though, The Locomotion only means one thing: Kylie. As part of the Kylie 25 celebrations, here's a video of Kylie singing it through the years. I think it's fair to say that not all the renditions feature the best vocals but they prove that Kylie has never been afraid to sing live - or to try something different:
Enjoy!

In Kylie's original release of this song there's a joyousness in her voice which makes Little Eva's ur-version sound a bit staid. The latter came out (in my own mid-teens) in the wake of 'The Twist' which had caught on as a new dance craze worldwide. 'The Locomotion' was just one of a number of attempts to create a multiplicity of new dance-crazes, but apart from the Twist they all failed. Even so, this particular song - especially in Kylie's version - does have an infectious momentum almost impossible to ignore.
