Following yesterday's post featuring multiple Gorillas in Bristol - here's another. The Drumming Gorilla was an instant hit in this classic ad for Cadbury's Dairy Milk. Actually, I can't quite believe this ad is 4 years old already - and while they've tried to recapture the magic of this, I don't think they've quite pulled it off since.

When this was on TV I assumed for a long time that it was done either by film trickery or by a man in a gorilla suit, albeit expertly 'fitted'. But it's undoubtedly a classic.
Btw, Andrew, did you know that when the original 'Planet of the Apes' won the specialty Oscar for 'Best Make-up', it beat '2001' because it was thought the apes in the latter film MUST have been real? At least that was how the story went at the time.
Ah, that's a good anecdote... I like. (Although I've not seen either film, so can't comment on how far-fetched or otherwise the claim that 2001 Apes were real may have seemed!)
WHAT? You haven't seen my definitive all-time favourite film? - and I'm NOT referring to 'Planet of the Apes', though that did surely have one of the greatest, gasp-inducing, 'twist' endings ever. Totally unexpected by ALL!
'2001' was also the only film I ever saw in the long-since-defunct Cinerama format, but even without that I know I'd have been blown away. However, seeing it now on a small screen just cannot avoid drastically reducing its original heart-stopping impact.
